Full BBC Documentary: The Kate Bush Story - Running Up That Hill

Legendary innovator n' casual badass Kate Bush launchs her first concert series in 35 years next week at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith, London. To coincide with this amazing occasion the BBC has produced a brand new documentary chronicling the Bush story. Elusive as ever, Kate herself, of course, is nowhere to be seen apart from stock footage from interviews and TV appearances. This feels 100% correct and it's amazing to get a summary concentrated like this. What we get that's newly produced is interviews with the likes of Tori Amos, Bat For Lashes, Tricky and St. Vincent expressing their enormous adoration. It's wonderful to see, she truly is an artist's artist. A singer's singer. We also get a peek inside with new interviews with key collaborators such as Dave Gilmore, Peter Gabriel and Lindsay Kemp. Not to mention a slight personal angle from her (now ex-) boyfriend of 10+ years Del Palmer, who also has worked extensively as her sound engineer. The mix is enticing and we love how accessible Kate seems for just a fleeting second. Enjoy the full hour below! Thoughts?

The Best of 2013: The Year In Music

We were gonna post our annual Best of list on Monday. But with the hurricane force winds and floodings (right outside our HQ) in Europe now is a good a time as any for some sweet beats! It's been another incredible year in music and we wanna say thank you for a true pleasure listening together with ya'll! Standouts for us has been the dreampop of Say Lou Lou, Sky Ferreira's debut album, the return of MKS, David Lynch working with Lykke Li, Blood Orange sending us into heaven and the return of both David Bowie and Annie. Well honestly, the whole list is a true statement of what we absolutely love with no particular ranking. We saw The Knife live front and center in May at their Copenhagen gig and have a memory for life. Sheer brilliance! The fact that M.I.A., Sky Ferreira and Annie shared links to this blog on Twitter is just nuts and amazing! Thank you so much! Last week we took part in the Digital Agenda for Music conference in Stockholm along with Robyn and representatives from the government, technology and music industry sectors. Eh, amazing! We cannot wait for what '14 has in store and continue to grow and bring you the most awesome beats around. Thank you and enjoy!

David Bowie - Love Is Lost (Hello Steve Reich Mix By James Murphy For The DFA)

David Bowie's glorious and unexpected The Next Day album will see a three disc edition expanded release of November 5th. First taster of what we can expect is this 10+ minute remix of Love Is Lost by DFA founder James Murphy. The minimalistic electronic approach is something we treasure and there is much drama in this new atmosphere. The rock aspect of the original mix is completely subdued and instead the line Oh, what have you done is chanted like a sad mantra over and over with the piercing synth and added echoes shining like black pavement in the street lights after heavy rain. Sounding like a 12" vinyl played live until the whole audience is hypnotized we think this is one of the best things coming out of TND project - and that is saying a lot considering how brilliant it is to begin with. The remix is a nod to musician Steve Reich as Murphy was obessed with that style of clapping music. The expanded version of the album will contain five unreleased songs + 2 remixes. Listen below and start counting down the days until November 5th! Enjoy!

Video Premiere: David Bowie - Valentine's Day

David Bowie is on his fourth single from the amazing The Next Day album already. The just released video to Valentine's Day is as somber and eerie as the song itself. The story of a school shooter plays out in an abandoned factory location playing on his tiny, red, headless guitar. Not to mention the demonic stare from time to time that truly pierces the screen. Directed by Indrani and Markus Klinko who were the collaborators on the Heathen cover it plays more simplistic that the previous three, but what is not shown makes it all that more interesting to watch.

David Bowie - The Next Day - Video Premiere

David Bowie has once again teamed up with Floria Sigismondi and created imagery that extends beyond just selling a song. Starring in The Next Day are also Marion Cotillard and Gary Oldman - amazing. The four create stirring content that already had it temporarily banned on youtube and now age restricted. The lushness of the visuals paired with the religious theme and social commentary is really striking. Classic iconography such as stigmata and flogging paired with Bowie as both a Jesus figure and an elusive pop icon makes for a superb watch. A lot is squeezed into less than 3 minutes of film. A must watch! Here I am, not quite dying…
