David Bowie has once again teamed up with Floria Sigismondi and created imagery that extends beyond just selling a song. Starring in The Next Day are also Marion Cotillard and Gary Oldman - amazing. The four create stirring content that already had it temporarily banned on youtube and now age restricted. The lushness of the visuals paired with the religious theme and social commentary is really striking. Classic iconography such as stigmata and flogging paired with Bowie as both a Jesus figure and an elusive pop icon makes for a superb watch. A lot is squeezed into less than 3 minutes of film.
