Best of '16: The Year In Music

Wow, what a year in music it's been! For us the highlight was to arrange a music talk with badass Little Boots at the MoMA (Moderna Museet Malmö) Malmö in Sweden! We had our live DJ debut also in Sweden and it was so awesome. Also - our like page became viral and reached just under 1 million people in under a month. WOW! Sadly we didn't have that much time for live gigs but we managed to head to RuPaul's Drag Race BOTS in Copenhagen, Denmark and it was much fun. Below is our annual Best of-list with 50 of our favourites of the year. (In no particular order.) We've gone nuts to awesome electronic beats, been mellow to gorgeous and emotive tracks and felt waves of happiness to soulful songs. They're all below, enjoooy! Click here is you prefer Deezer!

Video Premiere: David Bowie - Lazarus

David Bowie's new album is out tomorrow and here's brand new Lazarus. We love it! It comes across as wonderfully self-reflective without an ounce of self pity. It's bold and dark - just like we like our coffee and Bowie, haha. In the Bible, Jesus brought Lazarus to life four days after his death: I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. This also applies to Bowie, considering he's been through many life phases, many dark times and bright spots and has a huge following of devotees sticking by him. We adore the dark mood and the unease the jazz elements bring to the table. It's both cohesive and shattering all at once. The visuals directed by Johan Renck are equally as thrilling. Blindfold with those eerie dots for eyes, sexy dance moves in a hospital ward, fashion on point and someone lurking in a closet. LOVE.

Video Premiere: David Bowie - ★

Legendary David Bowie just released the video to the title track of his album project ★ (Blackstar) and wow, what a trip! The song itself borders jazz with some folk and indietronica & an eerie atmosphere + a gorgeous pop interlude. The Johan Renck directed video is equally as thrilling. It's a bit Twin Peaks with hips that don't lie, spooky scarecrow prisoners - the mystery is unending. It'll take quite a few views to let it all sink in. Watch below; thoughts?

Premiere: David Bowie - ’Tis A Pity She Was A Whore

David Bowie, the enigmatic chameleon for the ages drops a brand new single and releases the b-side first. Meet 'Tis A Pity She Was A Whore, a dark, experimental, industrial, messy, with muffled vocals. Says Bowie himself: “If Vorticists wrote Rock Music it might have sounded like this.” The lyrics acknowledges the shocking rawness of WW1 and the title borrows from ‘Tis Pity She's A Whore’ a John Ford Restoration play premiering in 1629 at the Cockpit Theatre in London. The single A-side is called Sue (Or In A Season of Crime) and drops on November 17th as a limited edition 10" plus as a download of course. Stream: Jessica Lange - Life On Mars? (David Bowie Cover)

Jessica Lange made a lot of people extremely happy last week, including us. She as Elsa Mars sang David Bowie's iconic 1971 single Life On Mars? during the season premiere of American Horror Story: Freak Show and it was so good! Styled in the vein of Marlene Dietrich's classic cabaret delivery and using the original music it was a glorious mishmash that totally worked and really added to the storyline. Elsa being disappointed by life and her own lack of fame go so well together with Bowie saying in 1997: I think she [the girl in the song] finds herself disappointed with reality... that although she's living in the doldrums of reality, she's being told that there's a far greater life somewhere, and she's bitterly disappointed that she doesn't have access to it. It's a great rendition and the TV version even mimics the classic video. Since this week it has a stand alone release on iTunes as a single, very cool! It's on repeat here tonight!
