Wow, we love this Kelela x Kindness x Kate Bush vibe! Kelela's mixtape Cut 4 Me got universal praise but Kindness missed the remix deadline so here they are as downloads! The title track is sprinkled with fairytale gold dust in the shape of Kate Bush and her magical This Woman's Work - it works SO well. Wheel The High, a take on The High, a busier and more urgent take that leaves us panting - love it! Go grab the .mp3's here and here. ENJOY!
Kate Bush's Running Up That Hillis equally as complex as it is direct and urgent. It sounds like a gem and of course was a major smash when released in 1985. It's stirring and oh so wonderful to say the least. This dark dream pop take by French duo Antonine & H1987 goes its own way and creates magic in a whole new realm. It gleams and pulsates like a shell of a secret longing to be forgotten. Like sand at the bottom of a well, aching to be seen. Like gold shining with a muted glow. The vocals are dreamy and floats in a night sky, with the sparse production surrounding it like the energy of a brooding animal waiting in the shadows. Top marks!
Tracey Thorn has impeccable taste in music so no wonder that BBC Radio 4 asked her to be their guest editor. For this session, which aired last night, she's recorded Kate Bush'sUnder The Ivy, the b-side to Running Up That Hill,as a tribute. Her life partner Ben Watt is on piano and we get a new string arrangement written by famous conductor Nick Ingman, known for his work with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and major Oscar winning films. Um, yes - impeccable taste it is, haha. Alsooo, this version is out as a single release today! We love the added warmth that Tracey's voice always brings, plus how this take is more subdued in true Thorn style. It really adds a new dimension to the original and what more can one ask really apart from a duet with Kate and Tracey from and center. Can you even imagine?! Read here what TT has to say about her cover and some thoughts about KB as an artist. Enjoy!
Legendary innovator n' casual badass Kate Bush launchs her first concert series in 35 years next week at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith, London. To coincide with this amazing occasion the BBC has produced a brand new documentary chronicling the Bush story. Elusive as ever, Kate herself, of course, is nowhere to be seen apart from stock footage from interviews and TV appearances. This feels 100% correct and it's amazing to get a summary concentrated like this. What we get that's newly produced is interviews with the likes of Tori Amos, Bat For Lashes, Tricky and St. Vincent expressing their enormous adoration. It's wonderful to see, she truly is an artist's artist. A singer's singer. We also get a peek inside with new interviews with key collaborators such as Dave Gilmore, Peter Gabriel and Lindsay Kemp. Not to mention a slight personal angle from her (now ex-) boyfriend of 10+ years Del Palmer, who also has worked extensively as her sound engineer. The mix is enticing and we love how accessible Kate seems for just a fleeting second. Enjoy the full hour below! Thoughts?
The theme here tonight is tranquility. How perfect we found this downtempo take on the 1986 classic Don't Give Up. Naturally this is a Peter Gabriel track but this version by UK producer Bonar Bradberry focuses solely on Kate Bush and her part filled to the brim with hope and love. The added somberness is truly gorgeous and the added bassline trembles like a heart aching for some tenderness. So perfect for a cold Scandinavian night like tonight. Enjoy!
