Stream: Bat For Lashes - Plan The Escape (Son Lux Cover)

We've listened to the soundtrack for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 a lot during the past week. The Lorde curated collection of songs is truly a treasure chest of amazing talent, artistry and beats. One of the standouts (apart from this amazing Grace Jones original) is the Bat For Lashes cover of Son Lux's magical Plan The Escape. The added dreamy tone to the vocals really does things to us. The sharpness of the original gets slightly fuzzy at the sides and it's like looking through a stained glass. So many colours and shapes just burst at us. Love Natasha's voice and since this track is so short it makes our body ache for a new album real soon.

Premiere: Beth Ditto & The Shoes - Supernature (Cerrone Cover)

Yeeees! Beth Ditto and The Shoes live premiered their badass cover of Cerrone's 1977 monster hit Supernature earlier this month and here's the studio version! It's a joy to listen to and like we said just over two weeks ago - we love the dramatic (and iconic) strings and heavy drums paired with those patented Ditto vocals. Imagine a whole Beth Shoes album - it would be so fantastic! Listen, listen and enjooooy!

Premiere: Sophie Ellis-Bextor - True Faith (New Order Cover)

New Order's brilliant 1987 single and video True Faith are iconic pieces of music and visuals. There's joy and darkness intertwined and under the goofy and catchy surface lies painful truths about hard drug dependency. Bernard Sumner's voice is truly magical and the way he delivers the lyrics with such an icy cool is beyond good. That brings us to another singer famed for her coolness. Sophie Ellis-Bextor covers this classic for the album project Sound of the 80's and we can see this becoming a live favourite by her fans. The amazing bassline really hits home and imagine this rumble away at a large venue with those strings coming in. It's hard to cover perfection, but SE-B gives it a good try at least! Listen below! Thoughts?

Premiere: Jessica Lange - Gods & Monsters (Lana Del Rey Cover)

Jessica Lange as Elsa Mars in American Horror Story: Freak Show continues to deliver the good big time! After her stellar performance of David Bowie's Life On Mars? - here's an amazing cover of Lana Del Rey's Gods & Monsters. Scheduled to be performed in this week's episode we cannot wait to see the visuals. Since this is for Amercian TV - naturally this is a clean version that omits all the fucks. Can we hope for the OST to have a dirty version too? Elsa deserves that for sure! We love her Marlene Dietrich influenced delivery and how an amazing storyteller she is. Listen below! Thoughts?

Stream: Jessica Lange - Life On Mars? (David Bowie Cover)

Jessica Lange made a lot of people extremely happy last week, including us. She as Elsa Mars sang David Bowie's iconic 1971 single Life On Mars? during the season premiere of American Horror Story: Freak Show and it was so good! Styled in the vein of Marlene Dietrich's classic cabaret delivery and using the original music it was a glorious mishmash that totally worked and really added to the storyline. Elsa being disappointed by life and her own lack of fame go so well together with Bowie saying in 1997: I think she [the girl in the song] finds herself disappointed with reality... that although she's living in the doldrums of reality, she's being told that there's a far greater life somewhere, and she's bitterly disappointed that she doesn't have access to it. It's a great rendition and the TV version even mimics the classic video. Since this week it has a stand alone release on iTunes as a single, very cool! It's on repeat here tonight!
