Stream: El Perro Del Mar - Breaking The Girl (Red Hot Chili Peppers Cover)

What a perfect start to the new year - newish El Perro Del Mar! Her RHCP cover Breaking The Girl was recorded for her excellent 2012 album Pale Fire but was never used. Her version differs wildly from the original rock production. The raw vocals and how close they come at you feels the same however. Nice! Amazing to imagine Sara and Anthony duet this one together and really make us sob from joy. Happy New Year - let's do this ish! Thank you MK. 

Premiere: KIll J - Barbie Girl (Aqua Cover)

For the sequel to Blade Runner Ridley Scott really should consider KIll J's cover of Aqua's monster hit Barbie Girl. The kitschy original was written as a social commentary by the Norwegian/Danish group and this cover extends it even further. The sunny approach is removed and replaced with a dystopian outlook. Gone are the summer days - hello eternal acid rain and shiny neon lights doubling as daylight. Really nice take by this Copenhagen wonder! She'd be perfect as a replicant in the Blade Runner movie, too. Imagine this playing in a bar scene and then KIll goes in for the kill. Imagination, life is your creation... 

Premiere: Lana Del Rey - Some Things Last A Long Time (Daniel Johnston Cover)

New Lana Del Rey is always a treat and this is no exception. For the movie Hi, how are you Daniel Johnston? she's recorded a cover of Daniel Johnston's 1990 track Some Things Last A Long Time. Her version differs greatly and offers a more guitar heavy and is a less eclectic take. We miss the offbeat atmosphere of the original, but Lana's warm tone makes a nice listen, too. Video Premiere: Hot Chip - Dancing In The Dark (Bruce Springsteen Cover)

Wow, it looks like Hot Chip raided our tumblr for the video to their Bruce Springsteen cover Dancing In The Dark. The visuals are wonderfully lo-fi and gif-tastic and some! The 1984 original is already heavy one the synth and this new update turns it into a disco odyssey. They even throw in a lil' LCD Soundsystem sample - nice! No wonder they used this as the concert closing number on their summer tour this year - it was tailor made for heavy dancin' in the dark! 

Premiere: Major Lazer Feat. MØ - Lost (Frank Ocean Cover)

Oh, oh! Major Lazer & MØ continue to be on a roll together! After scoring their US #9 Lean On with DJ Snake earlier this year we were hoping they would! Their cover of Frank Ocean's amazing Lost is makes for a snack to tide us over 'til we have new Ocean material in our life. Where the original is more organic and soulful, this is more a party anthem filled with drum machines, vocoder and a lil' steel drumming. It's fun and flirty and we don't being a tad lost until FRANK releases a new album. Enjoy!
