The Best of 2013: The Year In Music

We were gonna post our annual Best of list on Monday. But with the hurricane force winds and floodings (right outside our HQ) in Europe now is a good a time as any for some sweet beats! It's been another incredible year in music and we wanna say thank you for a true pleasure listening together with ya'll! Standouts for us has been the dreampop of Say Lou Lou, Sky Ferreira's debut album, the return of MKS, David Lynch working with Lykke Li, Blood Orange sending us into heaven and the return of both David Bowie and Annie. Well honestly, the whole list is a true statement of what we absolutely love with no particular ranking. We saw The Knife live front and center in May at their Copenhagen gig and have a memory for life. Sheer brilliance! The fact that M.I.A., Sky Ferreira and Annie shared links to this blog on Twitter is just nuts and amazing! Thank you so much! Last week we took part in the Digital Agenda for Music conference in Stockholm along with Robyn and representatives from the government, technology and music industry sectors. Eh, amazing! We cannot wait for what '14 has in store and continue to grow and bring you the most awesome beats around. Thank you and enjoy!

Premiere: Blood Orange & Samantha Urbani - You're Not Good Enough

Real life couple Dev Hynes a.k.a Blood Orange and Samantha Urbani just released a scorcher of a song! You're Not Good Enough ain't exactly a lovey dovey song, haha. In fact, quite the opposite! Over Dev's gorgeous guitar strut they're singing very gently about never being in love and the other part never being good enough. Wow! Talk about the heartbreak one would feel if ever hearing that. We hear traces of Dev's stunning production on Solange's Losing You and that, dear friends, can never ever be a bad thing. In the mix is also a Prince vibe that's driving us wild and makes us wanna rip our clothes off from excitement. So yeah, top marks because of perfection. It'll be added on our Best of '13 later this year for sure. Enjoy! The third Blood Orange album Cupid Deluxe is out on November 18th. 

Video Premiere: Solange - Lovers in the Parking Lot

Solange's fantastic True EP is easily one of the most played at our place this past year. One of the first tracks we heard from it was Lovers in the Parking Lot and we're so happy it's getting a single release! We could listen to the drums alone, haha, but the amazing vocal delivery is just sublime and the production from Dev Hynes is perfection. The video is Texas strip mall realness and the idea of pairing a classic shopping destination with a club feel is effective. The dancing more than reminds of a certain sister as well, haha. Both Solange and Beyoncé kills it dancing in heels! The sentiment that you end up playing yourself if you mess around with other people's hearts we totally agree with. You should treat others like you wanna be treated yourself. Easier said than done, but oh so TRUE. Enjoy below! Lyrics here! 

Mutya Keisha Siobhan - Flatline (MNEK Remix)

Tune! Flatline by Mutya Keisha Siobhan and produced by Dev Hynes is already one of the year's best singles. NOW comes this bangin' and delicious garage remix by MNEK. The added groove is exceptional and the added choir be on point. Actually it reminds us a lot of Mariah's fantastic house remix run in the 90's. Plus the girlz lead voices really get to shine! Love that instead of subtracting or chopping the vocals we're getting more goodies for our minutes worth. Enjoy!   

Video Premiere: Mutya Keisha Siobhan - Flatline

Finally! After what has felt like a monumental wait the video to Mutya Keisha and Siobhan's stellar Dev Hynes produced single Flatline is here! The song is most definitely on our Best of 2013 list and we've been so curious for some visuals to go along. The video is a stunning retro piece that looks like a vintage moving postcard sent from a vacation in Los Angeles sometime in the 60's. We love the juxtaposition of the sad lyrics with the joyous and colourful sceneries. Top marks! PS. The fashionz these girlz are bringing we cannot even. Love!
