Björk - Human Behaviour (Dimitri From Paris Underground Behaviour Remix)

We are slowly easing into weekend mode with some strong coffee and a 90's house remix of Björk, hehe. We love the story behind it and for the fact that we can picture people going mental over this in NYC clubs in early 1994. Wonderful! Says Dimitri From Paris:

I was commissioned to remix Human Behaviour by Island France who were releasing it domestically. I did 2 sets of mixes and they were grouped on a single promo 12" that was pressed to only 500 copies making it a pretty rare item today. She apparently didn't like the remix much and it stayed commercially unreleased. Luckily for me, I had a chance meeting with David Morales at the time and gave him 2 copies. Months later I was told he and DEF mix partner Frankie Knuckles were killing it in the NY clubs. Thanks to them my name got out of France and it kickstarted my career outside of my country.

Björk - Hollow - Video Premiere

We absolutely love the fact that each of us have Björk's video Hollow deep inside of us. She has collaborated with biomedical animator Drew Berry to create a visual for the complex DNA replication and transcription. It's a fascinating watch and only Björk would come up with this as a theme for a song and video treatment. It feels both primordial and futuristic in one go with the sparse beats slowly transforming into an electronical world. A true must watch! (The animation was created for the Biophilia Hollow app.)

Says Björk:

It's just the feeling when you start thinking about your ancestors and DNA that the grounds open below you and you can feel your mother and her mother, and her mother, and her mother, and her mother 30,000 years back. So suddenly you're this kinda tunnel, or trunk of DNA ... All these ghosts come up so it ended up begin a Halloween song and quite gothic in a way ... It's like being part of this everlasting necklace when you're just a bead on a chain and you sort of want to belong and be a part of it and it's just like a miracle.

Says Drew Berry:

The "Hollow" music video is a powers-of-10 exploration of the microscopic and and molecular landscapes inside Björk's body. The animation was constructed from molecular models of DNA and proteins derived from various forms of scientific data such as x-ray crystallography.

My work is usually defined by goals of didactic science education and accuracy, so this is the first time that I've strayed fully into the world of art, with the opportunity to mess around with the scientific data to create a whimsical and playful journey.

Inside a cell nucleus the audience encounters Björk's ancestral spirit — her ghost in the machine — that watches over her genes as they flow from one generation to the next. The spirit manifests as a large molecular complex which was modeled from a three-dimensional head scan of Björk. The inspiration for the face came from the 'fruit face' paintings by the 16th century italian artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo who took objects such as fruits, vegetables, or books, and arranged them in such a way that they formed a portrait.

Chloe Sevigny - Valentine's Day

Our heart's beloved Chloe Sevigny is back after what we think was a lengthy bus tour of Eastern European capitals. And she's baaack just in time for Valentine's Day! <3 <3 <3 Be still our beating heart! What we wouldn't give to have Valy-en-teen's dee with Scrileschs and Chloe! Not to mention hopscotch lessons with André Leon Talley wearing a leatherette heart daycape! Nice usage of Björk's Hyperballad at the very end - awesome touch.

Björk - Interview + Cosmogony @ The Colbert Report

Björk is busy setting up her Biophilia residency in New York, and we so look forward to the goodness that will bring. She stopped by and chatted with Stephen Colbert yesterday and performed her wonderful ode to cosmos - Cosmogony. No secret we looove Björk - but this made us love her even a bit more. The interview showed her playful and fun side + the performance was flawless and that dress she had on stage is just her persona wrapped up in an outfit. Lovely! Quote of the day: Can I lick the apps? And also, how funny is that comment about creating a double album with a mouse, hahaha.

Björk - Cosmogony + Thunderbolt - Live @ Jools Holland

We are speechless and in awe. Björk topped herself last night on Later...with Jools Holland, this time she performed Cosmogony and Thunderbolt. If you remember Jools aired her Crystalline perfomance earlier in the week. The songs are pure perfection live, and maybe it is just us, but the songs seems to have even more depth and be more cohesive after being peformed live for a while now. Björk and her crew seem so inspired and enjoy it so much. We're sure even the tesla coil is having a blast! We love the marching beat in Cosmogony not to mention Björk's breath taking articulation in Thunderbolt. OK, so we had a lot to say despite being speechless. Watch below! Enjoy! These clips made us love her even more. Just sayin'!
