Free Download: Sinéad O'Connor - Mandinka (Justin Strauss' 1988 Extended Mix)

Sinéad O'Connor released Mandinka in December 1987 as the second single from her debut album The Lion and the Cobra and things really kicked off for her. The song served as her first US network television live performance (on David Letterman) and in 1989 she performed it at the Grammy Awards. As part of her big push in the US now legendary New York DJ Justin Strauss remixed it for the club 12". In true amazing 80's fashion he extended it, keeping the original work's integrity, and added some (now) classic 80's sounds and a lil' piano. The mix down sounds different as well. Sinéad's voice is deeper in the mix and the sounds is a bit more club. Amazing time document to have on a Saturday, this would've been done on a reel-to-reel, pressed on vinyl and imagine people later going crazy over it in a club basement later having beers and dancing like crazy. Niiiiice. Enjoy + download below!

Free Download: Soft Cell - Tainted Love (DANK Remix)

In 1981 Soft Cell were down to the last chance from their label to ignite chart success after all their previous releases had failed in that aspect. They decided to cover Gloria Jones' obscure 1964 Northern Soul track Tainted Love and completely rework it. The result - a worldwide hit, reaching #1 in 17 countries and rewriting what a cover version could be. Miami Beach/Chicago DJ Dan Klokow builds on the greatness of thinking outside the box and infuses this utter classic with a deep house vibe and a new killer bassline. The distinct sounds of the Soft Cell original are all there and hearing 'em juxtaposed with a contemporary really sounds awesome. Not to mention Marc Almonds vocals that truly are forever. Amazing for a Friday night! Enjoooy!

Free Download: Sky Ferreira VS. Milky Chance - Everything Dance

Sky Ferreira's Everything Is Embarrassing is easily one of our most played the last few years. Love it so! The melancholy feeling is palpable and we cannot get enough. Sky's own programmer/keyboardist Johnny Danger, who did this very awesome remix last year mashes it with German duo Milky Chance's Stolen Dance - thus infusing the sadness with some folktronica. The result is strangely soothing and the vocal loop is hypnotic paired with that stomping beat. It now borders on, dare we say, a happy song?! ;) Enjoy below!

Free Download: Björk - I've Seen It All (SIMØNE Remix)

Lars von Trier's 2000 film musical Dancer in the Dark is one of the most soul crushing things we have ever seen. Björk as Selma Ježková is a heart pounding watch and suffocated us almost when we saw it. Once was enough, still the memory of it lives on vividly. I've Seen It All features Thom Yorke on the album and Peter Stormare in the movie and tells the story of slowly losing vision literally. It was nominated for an Academy Award and from the 2001 broadcast comes our favourite version. So elegant, heartbreaking and flawless. Plus, swan dress 4-ever! Spanish producer SIMØNE also keeps it as a solo version and adds a hypnotic electronic beat. The raw style of the vocals creates a wonderful distortion to the sleek music and it really is striking. Selma's slow burner of a song about slowly going blind set to a dance beat - now we have almost heard it all. And it's awesome to top it off. The last 45 seconds kills us, and that train track noise will follow us all night... Stream below, download here

Free Download: Goldfrapp - Thea (Alex Nagshineh Remix)

Goldfrapp's Thea is one of our favourites from the whole Tales of Us era. Finding at least a flicker of light in absolute despair is at least something and this song speaks volumes. Not to mention how wonderful the music is. So emotive and blasting us with that bassline of doom and sorrow. Amazing! London based producer Alex Nagshineh puts a flawless spin on it, creating a whole new structure and then letting the original shine through the cracks occasionally. It's a hypnotic and strangely soothing experience, and also worh mentioning - a 7+ minute one! Really awesome! Stream and grab the .wav below. Enjoy!
