Premiere: Lorde - Yellow Flicker Beat (From The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 OST)

Lorde has been busy curating the entire soundtrack to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and here's the first taster! Yellow Flicker Beat is exactly that. The intro aches and slow burns, the flicker kicking into a hard hitting beat with the nervous undertone being a constant companion. Vocally it's a stunning track - very Lorde! Dark, haunting and restrained with some soaring parts. Holding back what sounds like a threat, and we're hypnotized by it. Listen below! Thoughts?

Mashup: Lorde VS. Lana Del Rey - Summertime Alone

Lorde's awesome A World Alone always makes us think of The xx. That guitar and groove really nails it! Now we have an perfect add to think about. Lana Del Rey's contemporary utter classic Summertime Sadness is 140 million (!) views into its dancing in the dark and just keeps on giving. The strict and almost regal atmosphere of the music goes perfect together with Lorde's bleak outlook on life. So good togetha! Plus this will kinda hold us over a bit until the new Lana material drops very soon! Enjoy!  

Bruce Springsteen - Royals (Lorde Cover)

We love when artists out on tour change up the setlist to tap into the local flavour. Also, we love when people have a finger on the pulse of things. Both came together beautifully last night when Bruce Springsteen surprised the audience in Auckland, New Zealand by opening his show with a solo performance of local superstar Lorde's Royals. Yes, classic harmonica and all! We love that his vocal is on point to. He's clearly listened to this track a lot. Nice! The song's topic is actually perfect for the Springsteen songbook - money, working class and dreaming of big things. Safe to say the crowd went wild, and so would we. Nice, nice! Lorde has had a huuge year career wise and we're sure she's reflecting on it big time. That Billboard #1 for nine consecutive weeks with Royals just before turning 17 must feel good! Her #1 debut Pure Heroine album offers Ribs and is perfect for NYE with its dance driven beat and contemplating mood. Friends, fun, drinks and thinking about the year just passed sounds like a New Years Eve party to us! Canadian DJ Ryan Hemsworth takes it down a notch just in time for the gathering to wind down and crash on beds and sofas. The chopped and layered vocals are hot and the new tempo is really laidback and sleep friendly. Nice, nice!
