Madonna - Borderline (Stripped Down Acoustic Mix)

Now, normally we're all for a deep bass situation. That doesn't mean we can't make exceptions, haha. One of Madonna's earliest signature songs is of course Borderline. Written and produced by Reggie Lucas in 1982 for her debut album M was unhappy with the result. She thought it had too many instruments on it and had her then boyfriend Jellybean remix it. How perfect then we came across this baby since July '13 marks 30 years since it was released. This stripped down take uses the original stems and really showcases how amazing this song really is. Yes, the production, artwork, iconic video adds to it, but the core structure is fantastic; the chords, lead vocals and backing harmonies. So simple and effective. Love to hear it like this! Thoughts?

Shep Pettibone - 1983 Mastermix Dance Party, New York 98.7 WRKS Kiss.FM

Shep Pettibone was in the summer of 1983 a year into creating mastermixes for now defunct and legendary NYC dance radio station Kiss.FM 98.7. His pioneering work creating remixes and mastermixes from reel to reel cut n' paste became so popular they were released as vinyl compilations + saw some overtake the originals in popularity. He started producing for iconic Salsoul Records and his idea of submitting several remixes for one song, thus fitting more radio formats, became the norm in the industry. He was an early collaborator with Pet Shop Boys and did wonders for Janet Jackson's singles from the Control and Rhythm Nation 1814 albums. Of course, he's most famous work is with Madonna; the ingenious production on 1990's Vogue and 1992 album Erotica - legendary. Sooo, we found this mix and wanted to post it as it's awesome, but also as the others are available on vinyl they have a tracklist and cover art. This baby clocks in at almost 100 minutes and we know some of the sickenin' beats. There's Herbie Hancock's Rockit, Nunk (New wave funk) by Warp 9 First Choice's Let No Man Put Asunder and Crown Heights Affair's Rock The World to name but a few. We can only imagine clubbing in the 80's, it would have been so cool to be part of that. But how fantastic since this is a summer '83 mix to be able to post it in July '13! Shep's website looks like it's straight outta 1996 and we saw he owns the Paradise nightclub in New Jersey so we should all hang out there next summer together! Grab the mix below and d.a.n.c.e! PS. YEAH, lady better twerk and twerk that ish good! When the piano kicks in over that ratchet beat ya'll know you better work the goods! Can we also acknowledge the fact that our buddy Robert Jeffrey is the grainy face for this sickenin' mix and so should get to twerk with MDNA herself at some point soon! 

Madonna VS. Daft Punk - A Lucky Mashup

Ooo, this mashup makes us tingle all over, haha! How awesome would it be if MDNA were to collaborate with Daft Punk?! Some hot beats for her next album are in due order for sure! PLUS legend Nile Rodgers who co-wrote and plays his heavenly guitar on Get Lucky produced Madonna's Like A Virgin album! Not to mention Pharrell's work on the Hard Candy album. The pitch on her voice in the mix made us smile for some reason. It sounds crazy and totally works! We can see this blowing up any party this summer and some! Nice work by Dutch producer Trillian Miles for sure. Thanks Jay! :))

It's literally impossible to grow tired of and Swedish remixer Sebastian Uzieblo a.k.a Honom has done an infectious refix that neeeeds to be on repeat tonight.
