Free Download: Sade - I Never Thought I'd See the Day (L-Vis 1990 Sunrise Edit)

Sade Adu's voice is one that will follow us until the end of time. Her way of expressing, what comes across like, the core of love and the sweet sorrow it can bring is unparalleled. I Never Thought I'd See The Day from 1988's Sade album Stronger Than Pride is a fantastic exercise in restraint. Over a sparse beat major hurt unravels and the lonesome saxophone bleeds love all over it. What has gone down could easily be an emotional belter of a song - instead we get almost a lullaby. NYC based producer and DJ L-Vis 1990 adds amazing sounds and we're going crazy over here. The gentle nod that something is about to happen, and then the beat kicks in and makes us weep. Top marks! Download below. Enjoy!

I knew I'd need a miracle to make you stay...

Free Download: Chaka Khan - I Feel For You (80's Child Legend Edit)

Chaka Khan covering Prince in 1984 was and still is a stroke of pure genius. She took I Feel For You, a funky album cut from his 1979 self-titled debut LP, strapped it onto a rocket and sent it into the stratosphere with a huge funk bang. Her version features some serious 80's swag and friends Stevie Wonder on harmonica, Melle Mel on that iconic rap part and instrumentation by The System's David Frank. PLUS it samples this + this one, absolute badass beauties. The end result brought the house down for years to come and gave Chaka a million seller that won a Grammy for Best R&B Song. Also it set the bar real high for the rest of the funk gang, haha. This edit by UK producer Danny Worrall a.k.a 80's Child plays like a sweet & classic 12" loops, extended breaks and all. We cannot even type this properly as we're busy cranking the volume up and stuff, haha. Play this loud and enjoooy getting down!

Free Download: Black Box - Ride On Time (Guido Re-Edit)

Black Box's 1989 UK #1 italo disco masterpiece Ride On Time can liven up the dullest of affairs, haha. Something about that insane house piano loop just makes us wanna go nuts in the best way possible! Fronted by tone deaf model Katrin Quinol this single originally sampled Loleatta Holloway's Love Sensation without clearing the rights and she got pissed off and sued successfully for $$$. Thus leading to a re-recording with (uncredited) vocals from Heather Small of M People. The full Dreamland album eventually came in 1990 and featured vocals from Weather Girls Martha Wash, who ended up suing as well as she had been paid to do demo work, not actually appear on the finished album as she did. Wowza! So many people and shenanigans! This re-edit by French DJ Guido Minisky and uses what sounds like alternate vocal takes in parts by Heather Small. We have a hard time typing this as all we wanna do is get up and get d.o.w.n, haha. That extended piano never sounded so good! Enjoy dancin'! PS. All these legal snafus eventually led to a safer environment for musicians as nowadays samples has to be cleared and credited in a much more transparent manner.

Giorgio Moroder – Chase (US 12″ Promo) - 2012 Remaster - Free Download

It's safe to say that electronic music would be nothing without Giorgio Moroder's pioneering work in the late 1970's. Chase is an absolute classic and can be found on the soundtrack to Midnight Express - an album he received an Academy Award for. This 12" version has never been commercially available, only as a rare vinyl pressing for promo use. We love that Giorgio himself has remastered it and is giving it away for free! What a treat and beyond generous. This opens up for a whole new generation to discover the roots for electronic music and for already Moroder fans to rediscover a staple in their collection. It's all there, the pumping synths and bassline with a nod to classical music. Argh, so good! Listen below and for the free download head here. Happy Friday!
