We're officially on a El Perro Del Mar roll this week! Absolutely in love with the darkness in this remix of Walk On By, Saint Etienne as the 90's legends they are have done a tremendous job! In their minimalistic take we get to hear what will be in the album version too - Dorian Corey's classic monologue from Paris Is Burning. If only he'd known what was to become of those sound bites. Also Sarah sings a snippet of Massive Attack's brilliant 1991 single Unfinished Sympathy. It's almost too much for us right now, haha. Sarah Assbring a.ka. El Perro Del Mar jumps head first into the 90's in her video to Walk On By. It's an exquisite song hitting all the right notes. Melancholic, with a terribly good groove and a sense of being incredibly strong for the right reasons. Talk about bittersweet lyrics! The video is an orgy in lo-fi images with oversaturated colours and fast cutting - as found on MTV in the early 90's. Even her striped fully buttoned shirt looks like it came off the Chanel 1993 runway! Her upcoming album Pale Fire is out November 12th on brand new Swedish label Ingrid and we cannot wait that long we thinks! Enough with tormenting us Sarah! We neeeed your new album! Paris Is Burning - A Sunday Documentary

Starting today we will show full documentaries on the blog as a Sunday treat. We thought it'd be an awesome experience showcasing ones we love + finding new amazing stuff. Let us know if you have tips!

First up is one of our all time favourites - Jenny Livingston's iconic Paris Is Burning from 1990. Sooo much can be said about this one - we'd need hours talking about it. It stands as an important time capsule regarding equality, gender and social structures. Not to mention showing the end of the golden age of ball culture with its art of voguing and the amazing and intimate portraits of the different families. We wish we could teleport us back in time and visit all of them. Willi Ninja, Angie & Venus Xtravaganza, Octavia St. Laurent... It's simply a must watch! The scenes that gets us every time are the ones with the small kids in Harlem, they are so young and seem so protective of each other. Also, one of the queens who after her death was discovered having had a dead body stuffed in her closet makes for a chilling and insane read.
