World Aids Day 2011
Today is World Aids Day, and while the work raising awareness goes on all year round, today is an important day. Also, this year marks 30 years since the virus first impacted the world. Over 34 million people are now living with HIV, with 25 million deaths since 1981 making it one of the most destructive epidemics in recorded history. And we all need to show solidarity with each other by make people aware of what is happening, getting facts across, and make sure that we all stay safe and get tested regularly. Also, all people living with HIV/AIDS need to get access to antiretroviral drugs. This year is about 'Getting to Zero'. Zero New HIV Infections, Zero Discrimination and Zero AIDS Related Deaths. Despite a significant decline in the estimated number of AIDS-related deaths over the last five years, there were still an estimated 1.8 million AIDS-related deaths last year. Stay safe dear friends!
